I want to start out by saying THANK YOU to Jill, the mastermind behind the brand Glisten and Glow for sending me a few of her products to try out FOR FREE! I know you have a long list of swatchers, but it was still very nice of you to open up your Facebook Fan Group and offer up your Hand and Nail Nutrition. That is one of many reasons why I love Indie companies over mainstream. Any whoooooo.... So let's get talking about the Hand and Nail Nutrition. On the Glisten and Glow website, you have 3 options to choose from. One is a combo pack of a Hand + Nail (.50 oz) and Cuticle Oil pen for $10. Second is just the Hand + Nail (.50 oz) for $6.50. Third is Hand + Nail (2 oz) for $14.00. You have 2 scent options- Unscented or her infamous Sangria White Peach. Jill had sent me 2 Hand + Nail (.50 oz) in unscented and Sangria White Peach, as well as a cuticle oil pen in Sangria White Peach.
Here's the packaging for the products. Classic Glisten and Glow packaging. I'm just super awkward about holding things ;)
Those are pictures of what the actual product looks like. Let me start this review by describing the actual product. The Hand + Nail nutrition is a white creamy lotion that has a really smooth consistency. It's not too thick or too thin, it's actually a really perfect medium. It's not so thin that it will run or drip down your hands and fingers, as you can see from the second picture, it has pretty good structure and can handle it's own. Like Wonder Woman. Now let's move on to the review, that's what you're all here for right??!!
Before Using Hand and Nail Nutrition
So let me start out by explaining my skin. I have incredibly sensitive skin, eczema, redness, and prone to cracking, splitting and bleeding of my skin during the winter. Basically, my skin is a big poop head and gets worse in the winter time. It's a barrel of laughs...but really just tears because it can be quite painful. My ring finger likes to do this thing, that traps water from showers and washing my hands, whatever, under my wedding rings and causes it do have a reaction. (Did I mention yet that my skin is super fun...insert eyeroll). Here are some before pictures of just how fun it is.
See what I mean about that rash??? Ugh. My nail polish is gorgeous, but the rest of me is ick. Actually, as I'm typing this, my hands are even worse :(. So I've had Hand + Nail for some time now, and I wanted to really give it a try before I wrote my review. I don't know how other people did theirs, but I really wanted to give an honest go. So here are my thoughts. I used this product with the cuticle oil, a few times a day for about a week and some change. PROS. First off, I LOVE the consistency. The product melted into my skin. My VERY FIRST try, it felt a smidge greasy on my hands still and it immediately turned me off. I was so blown, but said I can't make judgments on one try, I have to give it some time. I'm so glad I did. The next couple of times it got so much better. It sank into my skin and DID NOT leave a greasy after feel. I used the Hand + Nail and then followed up with the cuticle oil. A little does go a long way, I would say on average I used about anywhere between a nickel sized amount to about a quarter. Some days depending on how annoying my skin would be, more or less than that. I feel like you are really getting your moneys worth by how little you actually need. I put this on my hands like I would normal hand lotion, but really concentrated on the areas that needed it the most like my rash and my knuckles. The cuticle oil is really nice as well, it soaked into my skin very nicely and again, did not leave a greasy feel behind. Initially, I felt that this really moisturized my skin at first. Here are some after pictures of using the Hand + Nail.
Ahhh..much better don't you think? Now here comes the CONS. For some reason, the scent of the Sangria White Peach smells off in the Hand + Nail nutrition than it does from the cuticle oil. I don't know if it was just mine, or if it doesn't agree with certain ingredients in the H+N vs the cuticle oil, but it didn't seem right. I preferred the unscented version. Now, INITIALLY the H+N did moisturize my skin, but my dry skin came back sooner than I would have liked and that made me sad. Within 30 minutes I would say. Now I'm not sure if that's the product, or again my skin being such a pain. Those are the only "bad" things I can say about H+N. For me, I think my skin is just a little too sensitive for this right now. I found out I'm pregnant and my skin has decided to be extra poopy. Pregnancy tends to make your skin more sensitive than normal....great. :/. After a few applications, my rash on my wedding hand returned, and with a vengeance. It burned every time I applied H+N (insert crying emoji). I think if you have less sensitive skin than me, this is a FANTASTIC PRODUCT. I don't have negative things to say about it (other than the off scent), I just don't think it agrees with me personally at this time in my life. After pregnancy and in the summer when my skin is less annoying, I'm definitely going to give this another whirl because I think it's a great idea. I love "Nutrition".
